The Witcher 3 For Switch Was Over 50gb Initially
Those looking at The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt running on the Switch may not be able to imagine all the work the Saber Interactive team had to make the game work the way it wanted on the Nintendo console. One of the setbacks, for example, was to make the title fit into the most powerful cartridge available on the market for the platform.
“When we finished the initial port, the game was running at 10 frames per second, using 50% more than the maximum memory the Switch had and was 20GB bigger than the most powerful cartridge on the market [which is 32GB]” , explained Matthew Karch, the company’s executive director, in an interview with VentureBeat.
During the chat, it was also mentioned that the team could not reduce the amount of characters and other elements of the cities, as the team thought that the game would be very empty in some respects if this were done. In the end, the solution was to make some adjustments to the shadows and vegetation so that after a year the title would run at 30 frames per second without losing much of the look on the platform.
The Withcer 3: Wild Hunt is available in PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Switch versions.
